Tips to Build Good Online Video From the Ground up

by Marcus Richard

You might be the greatest thing since sliced bread when it comes to lighting and framing. But if you’re no good at these preliminary things your online video quality may seriously suffer. That could mean less viewers, less revenue and less projects in the future. So check out these few quick things to help you get set before you say Quiet on the Set!

Lights, Camera, Wait a second! – You can’t just jump into shooting without truly knowing what you’re shooting. That’s where a truly good script comes in handy. By taking into account things like the speech rate of the average person (120-150 words per minute) you can put together a script that will not stress the speaker or your viewers. Pacing is key as the video can’t proceed too slowly or too quickly. Viewers will either be lost or bored and neither one of those is good for business. So set the pace if you’ve got someone speaking so that they’re not rushed and all the information is transmitted to full effect.

What goes where when? – Scripting is good to know who says what. Storyboarding is great for knowing who and what goes where and when. It’s a fantastic way to get the full picture of your video laid out prior to even thinking about shooting. It puts you in the director’s seat of a fully equipped and ready to go idea. That means you’ll know exactly what you need to proceed and will really help your video shine when you get to the nuts and bolts. If all goes smoothly you’re on budget and on time and that helps make for happy people all around.

Finishing Touches – Ok so you’ve got the script written, the actors and props in the proper places and all went well in shooting. Now to put the finishing touches on those videos to make them really pop. Credits, subtitles, and other information can really help you sell your product or keep your viewers informed. Just because it’s video doesn’t mean you can’t use text to push across information like web URLs, email address and other contact information. If you’re selling a product don’t you want the viewers to know where they can get those products or find out more information? Of course you do!

With these steps at the front and back of your video shooting you should be making well-organized, informative video content in no time. Making it interesting, well that’s beyond the scope of this article ,but you can think about keeping things moving at a good pace and you should be on the right track.
